 DSE, CSE continue losing streak

DHAKA: Stocks witnessed another downtrend session, extending the losing spell for second consecutive sessions in a row on Tuesday (April 16) amid excessive selling pressure by cautious investors. 

The capital bourse of the country opened with a negative note and continued the declining trend till end of the session.

At the close of day’s trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse went down by 60.55 points or 1.14 percent to reach 5248 points. 

Today's broad index was the lowest one of this year. However, two other indices also ended lower. 

The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 16.43 points or 1.33 percent to close at 1,212.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 24.54 points or 1.29 percent to finish at 1,876.81.

Of the issues traded, 59 gained, 253 declined and 32 remained unchanged.

“Investors were reluctant to inject fresh funds even in this level fearing further fall. Investors lost their confidence and their participation has also decreased,” said EBL securities in its daily market analysis. 

Shares worth Tk 2,699 million changed hands at the DSE on the second trading session of this week.

Monno Ceramic Industries Limited topped the turnover leaders with 6.24 lakh shares worth Tk 175.64 million traded.

Top five losers at prime bourse DSE at the end of day’s trading are RECKITTBEN, GSPFINANCE, BANKASIA, MONNOCERA and EMERALDOIL.

The CSE overall share index, CASPI also declined 187.98 points or 1.15 percent to reach 16,100.83 points at the close today. 

Of the 218 issues traded, 39 advanced, 149 suffered loss and 30 remained unchanged.

The value of the traded issues was Tk 115.57 million.
