DHAKA: Mohammadi Group Managing Director (MD) Rubana Huq has assumed office as the first female president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Rubana Huq formally took charge as the country's top trade body's president, at its 36th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at newly opened BGMEA Complex in Uttara Saturday (April 20).
BGMEA confirmed the matter in a press release.
The outgoing board of directors handed over charges to the newly elected board, in the meeting, said the release.
The meeting passed the audited account statement for the year 2017-18 and approved budget for 2018-19, it added.
The new board of directors includes-- Dr Rubana Huq (president), Mohammad Abdus Salam (vice president), Faisal Samad (senior vice president), SM Mannan Kachi (vice president), MA Rahim Firoz (vice president, finance), Arshad Jamal Dipu (vice president), Md Moshiul Azam Sajal (vice president) and AM Chowdhury Selim (vice president).
Garment exporters took part in the AGM.
Rubana Huq, wife of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) late mayor Annisul Huq, led Sammilito Forum in the BGMEA election on April 16.
The panel won the biennial election by large margin.
