DHAKA: A three-day "Indonesia Fair 2019" kicked off at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) here on Thursday (April 25).
Commerce Ministry secretary Mofizul Islam inaugurated the fair by cutting ribbon at Rajdorshan hall of ICCB around 11:45am.
Indonesian High Commission in Dhaka has arranged the fair in a bid to boosting business ties between two nations.
As chief guest, Secretary Mofizul Islam said Bangladesh and Indonesia have friendship for long. The trade relations between the two countries are also very old.
Recalling the role of Indonesia during the liberation war, the secretary said, Indonesia was beside us during liberation war in 1971. The country is also beside Bangladesh to resolve the Rohingya problem.
Calling upon Indonesian businessmen to invest in Bangladesh, the commerce secretary said Bangladesh is the world's second largest country in ready-made garment exports. There are a lot of opportunities for investment here. If you invest here, both countries will be benefited.
Indonesian Foreign Ministry Secretary General Mayerfas said that such fair will create new possibilities for trade between Bangladesh and Indonesia. The fair will boost up trade, investment and tourism of the two countries.
Mayerfas also urged Bangladesh businessmen to import various goods from Indonesia.
In his introductory speech, Indonesian ambassador in Dhaka Rina P Soemarno said the fair will strengthen the trade relations between Bangladesh and Indonesia. For the second time, this arrangement will unveil new business doors.
More than 75 Indonesian companies are taking part in the fair, showcasing Indonesian boutique, clothes, jewelries, handicraft, food, beverage and tourism.
The fair will continue till Saturday (April 27) and remain open to visitors from 11am to 8pm each of the days.
A business forum of Bangladesh-Indonesia will hold a discussion on the second day, vowing further strengthening ties among the two countries.
Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan is likely to attend the discussion as the chief guest.
