DHAKA: Stocks witnessed another downtrend session on Tuesday (May 7), extending the losing spell for second consecutive sessions in a row.
Market analysts said both the bourses of the country observed a price correction today for second consecutive days following decreased participation from the investors as well.
Shares worth Tk 4,335.05 million changed hands at the DSE on the third trading session of this week
The key index of DSE, DSEX, went down by 52.08 points or 0.97 percent to close the day at 5,289.99 points.
The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 11.16 points or 0.90 percent to close at 1222.47.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 19.39 points or
1.03 percent to finish at 1,861.82.
Of the issues traded, 57 gained, 262 declined and 28 remained unchanged.
“Market started on negative and continued till the end of the session as investors selling shares for booking profit from their holdings and adopted cautious stance in the month of holy Ramadan,” said EBL securities in its daily market analysis.
Fortune Shoes Limited dominated the DSE turnover chart with exchanging shares worth Tk 323.63 million followed by Power Grid Company of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation
Top five losers are EBL, BDFINANCE, YPL, ICB3RDNRB and 1STPRIMFMF while top five gainers are MONNOCERA, POWERGRID, GREENDELT, LHBL and DESCO.
However, most of the sectors experienced price correction today.
The CSE overall share index, CASPI also declined 163.67 points or 0.99 percent to reach 16,231 points at the close today.
Of the 226 issues traded, 47 advanced, 161 suffered loss and 18 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues was Tk 264.98 million.
