DHAKA: The authorities have formed eight teams to monitor the markets in the capital city, vowing to observe the price of commodities and vegetables.
The teams have started drive at various markets under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), on Wednesday (May 8) morning.
In DNCC, regional executive officers in Uttara, Mirpur, Mohammadpur and Mohakhali zones have led the drive.
In DSCC, executive magistrates have led the drives in Segunbagicha, Shantinagar, Kaptan Bazar, and Dhalpur-Jatrabari areas.
The traders in most of the markets are following the price list issued by the city corporation authorities and department of agricultural marketing, said the monitoring team leaders.
But there are some irregularities too, they added.
Apart from fining, legal action has been taken, in this regard.
However, the monitoring will be continued, said DNCC zone-2 executive officer SM Shafiul Azam.
On May 6, DSCC has fixed the price of local beef at Tk 525 per kilogram, foreign beef at Tk 500, buffalo at Tk 480 and mutton at Tk 750 in Dhaka during the holy month of Ramadan.
