DHAKA: Key share price indices at both bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- witnessed downtrend for third consecutive sessions on Wednesday (May 8) amid decreased participation from the investors.
Turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the main bourse of the country, has reached at Tk 3317.83 million today, marking a significant decrease from previous session’s Tk 4335.05 million.
However, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 17.61 points or 0.33 percent to reach at 5,272.38 points at the end of day’s trading.
However, other indices also edged lower. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also declined 4.49 points or 0.36 per cent to close at 1217.98.
The DS30 comprising blue chips shed over 3.77 points or 0.20 per cent to close at 1858.04 points.
“Market started on negative and continued till the end of the session as investors are in sideline to have cautious stance”, said eblsecurities, in its daily analysis.
Of the issues traded on the DSE, 85 advanced, 206 declined and 52 remained unchanged.
Wednesday’s top five gainers at the DSE were STANCERAM, FORTUNE, AFTABAUTO, NBL and SSSTEEL while top five losers were CENTRALPHL, LRGLOBMF1, MONNOCERA, CITYGENINS and NFML.
Nevertheless, Fortune Shoes Ltd topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 317, 22 million having changed hands followed by Monno Ceramic and Esquire Knit Composite.
On the other hand, the port city bourse, CSE, also saw a negative trend with its Overall Share Index, CASPI declined 21.20 percent or 0.13 percent to close at 16,209.83 points.
A total of 5.56 million shares and mutual fund units have been traded, generating turnover of Tk 162.13 million.
Of the 224 issues traded on the DSE, 57 advanced, 136 declined and 31 remained unchanged on the port city bourse.
