DHAKA: Stocks ended almost flat on Sunday (May 26) as the major indices of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed mixed on the day amid cautious stance of investors.
In the port city, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) maintained downward trend as its CSE All Share Price Index-CASPI witnessed a marginal fall.
The index remained volatile throughout the session as opportunistic investors opted to take fresh position for re-establishing their portfolio with lucrative price level in sector specific large-cap stocks.
At the close of day’s trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse went down by 2.73 points or 0.05 percent to reach 5,253.
Two other indices also ended lower. The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 2.72 point or 0.22 percent to close at 1,190.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 7.44 points or 0.40 percent to finish at 1825.
Losers beat gainers with 121 losers, 183 gainers while 42 remained unchanged.
Moreover, the market turnover closed at Tk 3289 million on the day.
British American Tobaco Bangladesh Company topped in the turnover chart with shares worth TK 144.65 million traded, followed by Eastern Cables and Fortune Shoes
The CSE overall share index, CASPI also lost 41.58 points or 0.25 percent to reach 15,999 points at the close today.
Of the 257 issues traded, 92 advanced, 144 suffered loss and 21 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues was Tk 170.64 million.
