DHAKA: Stocks returned to the losing streak on Wednesday (June 12), snapping a three-day gaining as profit booking tendency has been displayed by the investors.
Market analysts said the market started positive but did not sustain as shaky investors mostly followed cautious stance considering announcement of the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year of 2019-20.
The key index of DSE, DSEX, went down by 6.35 points or 0.11 percent to close the day at 5469.63 points.
The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 2.88 points or 0.23 percent to close at 1241.65.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 4.46 points or 0.23 percent to finish at 1917.36.
Of the issues traded, 116 gained, 195 declined and 38 remained unchanged.
Shares worth Tk 5,226.39 million changed hands at the DSE on the fourth trading session of this week.
BBS Cables Ltd dominated the DSE turnover chart with exchanging shares worth Tk 261.67 million followed by United Power Generation and Distribution Company ltd and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation.
Top five gainers at DSE were PEOPLESINS, BGIC, GLOBALINS, CITYGENINS, and JANATAINS while top five losers at DSE were MEGCONMILK, MEGHNAPET, DAFODILCOM, CAPMBDBLMF and AIBL1STIMF.
The CSE overall share index, CASPI also declined 37.91 points or 0.22 percent to reach 16,735.52 points at the close today.
Of the 256 issues traded, 81 advanced, 137 suffered loss and 38 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues was Tk 221.44 million.
