DHAKA: Stocks witnessed another downtrend session on Tuesday (July 2), extending the losing streak for second consecutive sessions in a row in the week.
Shares worth Tk 4827.11 million changed hands at the DSE on the second trading session of this week as trading remained closed on Monday due to bank holiday.
The key index of DSE, DSEX, went down by 36.69 points or 0.67 percent to close the day at 5384.92 points.
The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 9.52 points or 0.76 percent to close at 1235.16.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 16.51 points or 0.85 percent to finish at 1912.57.
Of the issues traded, 143 gained, 174 declined and 36 remained unchanged.
“Recent hike in fuel and energy costs may further posit some challenges in H2'2019. However, regulatory initiatives for supporting banking sector through some favorable policy guidelines, imposition of tax on bonus shares to encourage cash dividends etc. may instigate investors to invest in capital market,” said EBL securities in its half-yearly market review.
Runner Automobiles Ltd dominated the DSE turnover chart with exchanging shares worth Tk 137.37 million followed by United Power Generation and Distribution Ltd and National Polymer Industries Ltd.
Top five gainers at DSE were RUNNERAUTO, 1STPRIMFMF, BPML, MIRACLEIND and CAPMIBBLMF while top five losers ate DSE were SEMLFBSLGF, GLOBALINS, ILFSL, PEOPLESINS and PRIMEBANK.
The CSE overall share index, CASPI also declined 122.20 points or 0.73 percent to reach 16,512 points at the close today.
Of the 264 issues traded, 115 advanced, 126 suffered loss and 23 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues was Tk 541.68 million.
