DSE, CSE extend gaining spell for 2nd day

DHAKA: Stocks extended their second winning spell in a row on Wednesday (July 17), with rising of the key indices as investors taking fresh positions at lucrative prices in sector-specific stocks.

DSEX, the key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, rose 8.68 points in the green closing the day at 5,133 points on the fourth trading session of the week.
 
The other two indices also closed higher. The DSE Shariah Index saw gain of 1.59 points or 0.13 percent to close at 1176.88 points.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also rose over 0.54 points or 0.02 percent to finish at 1830 points.

Of the issues traded, 196 gained, 118 declined and 38 remained unchanged.

However, the total turnover of DSE slightly went up to Tk 3,096 crore which was 2717.61 crore in the previous session.

“Investors’ sentiment regarding the market remained positive and buoyancy prevailed throughout the session as new rules of disbursing only cash dividend for mutual funds and additional 10 years tenure showing optimism towards the market,” said EBL Securities in its daily market analysis.

Fortune Shoes Ltd dominated the DSE turnover chart with trading shares worth about Tk 231.97 million closely followed by United Power Generation and Distribution Company Ltd and Silco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. 

Eastern Insurance Company was the day’s highest gainer while the Bangladesh Industrial Fin. co was the worst loser of the day.

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended higher with its major CASPI index rising 28.13 points or 0.17 percent to close the day at 15473 points. The CSE traded Tk 15730.53 million on the fourth day of the week.

Of the total 273 issues traded, price of 151 issues advanced, 98 declined and 24 remained unchanged with shares worth Tk 301.39 million.
