BENAPOLE: The first shipment of 500 metric tonnes of hilsa fish, allowed by the Bangladeshi government on the occasion of Durga Puja, will be exported to India through the Benapole port on Sunday (Sep 29).
Some 24 metric tones, the first shipments of hilsa fish is going to India on Sunday. The price of per kilogram hilsa has been fixed at six dollars (about Tk 500). The shipment will be released with duty-free facility.
Regarding the export of hilsa to India, businessman Syed Mohitul Haque Rubai said that the Ministry of Commerce has taken the decision to export 500 metric tonnes of hilsa to India on the occasion of Durga Puja. There is a directive to send all shipments of 500 metric tonnes of hilsa to India by October 10.
The people of West Bengal in Kolkata are very fond of the hilsa of Padma. Bangladesh government has stopped exporting hilsa to India since 2012 due to the low production of hilsa in the country.
Sources said Aquatic Resort Limited of Gazipur is the export company of Hilsa. Naj Ampex Private Limited of Howrah in Kolkata of India is the importer and C&F of those hilsa.
