Ten British Bangladeshi residents, including former BBC News TV presenter, Tasmin Lucia-Khan, from a diverse range of industries, were honoured for their personal contributions and achievement, at the annual UKBCCI Awards, which took place in central London.

Tasmin received the Businesswoman of the Year Award, which celebrates the spirit, achievements, success and acumen of an exceptional business woman who has successfully broken the glass ceiling.

Tasmin Lucia-Khan Former BBC News TV presenter, Tasmin Lucia-Khan is an Oxford graduate with a Masters degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

She is a prolific entrepreneur, with over 20 years of media and advertising experience, having started her first business whilst studying at the University of Oxford.

In 2007, Tasmin partnered with a fellow Oxford graduate to become a founding team member of AdMaxim Inc., (Admaxim.com) a media technology start-up based in the Silicon Valley. AdMaxim Inc. is now one of Europe’s leading mobile advertising agencies, with seven offices worldwide, delivering 1.2 billion ads annually for 430

iconic global brands including Mercedes, Pizza Hut, Nestle, Starbucks and Subway.

Tasmin is the Chief Strategy Officer for AdMaxim.

For her achievements in business and media, Tasmin was named “Global Pioneer” by Virgin Media in 2017 and was honoured with Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Lloyds Banking Group in the UK in 2014.

Tasmin now divides her time between her various portfolio companies, TV roles and media engagements.

In the UK, Tasmin is a household name having been the face of BBC Three News, an

anchor on the BBC News Channel’s nightly E24 programme, and having fronted the news on ITV’s breakfast show in 2010, now known as Good Morning Britain.

Tasmin has reported on some of the biggest news stories in the world including the South East Asian Tsunami, the death of Michael Jackson, Barack Obama’s inauguration and the capture of Osama Bin Laden.

She has interviewed global figures such as Bill Clinton, Angelina Jolie, Shah Rukh

Khan and hosted the Commonwealth Games Baton Relay at Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in attendance, broadcasting to a global audience of billions in over 60 countries worldwide.

She is married to fellow Oxford alumni, cardiologist Dr Junaid Zaman.

The UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce & Industry (UKBCCI) Awards were launched in 2016 to not only celebrate the impact and contribution of the UK and Bangladesh Business and Industries finest to the UK’s economy, but to also highlight success across a vast range of sectors, including banking, finance, medicine, the hotel and restaurant industry, retail, media, fashion and the arts.

There are in excess of 500,000 Bangladeshis in the United Kingdom today and they form an important part of the UK’s fabric and economy. With a strong work ethic and great entrepreneurial zeal, throughout the decades, British Bangladeshis have formed businesses that have resulted in billions of pounds being contributed to the Exchequer.

From Rushanara Ali MP, the first person of Bangladeshi origin to have been elected as a

Member of Parliament to TV presenters such as Tasmin Lucia-Khan, Konnie Huq and Lisa Aziz, and from the only Bangladeshi professional footballer in England Anwar Uddin to the Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain – these are just a few of the scores of British Bangladeshis making their mark on British society.
