Shahjahan Mia, a returning worker of Comilla, said he had gone to Saudi Arabia a month and half ago. But he was arrested and returned home empty handed.
Ruhul Amin who hails from Kushtia also returned bare-footed as he had no sandal. He could not get money for expenses in 6 months. I had to return empty-handed at a time.
Head of BRAC migration Programme Shariful Hassan said at least 18,000 Bangladeshi workers have been repatriated from Saudi Arabia so far this year. Many Bangladeshi workers are being cheated in the name of a free visa that allows them to work multiple jobs simultaneously. Many are unable to earn money for expenses and arrested.
