DHAKA: Bashundhara Group is ready to provide lands to establish China Town in Dhaka, if necessary, said the Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
Besides, country's leading business conglomerate also proposed to name a street in Bashundhara residential area as China Street.
The proposals were placed when Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming visited country’s largest media outlet East West Media Group Limited complex in Bashundhara Residential Area of Dhaka on Wednesday (Feb 26).
Sayem Sobhan Anvir along with the editors and senior journalists of different media houses of the complex gave him a floral reception on his arrival.
The envoy sat with the media personnel at a discussion meeting and exchanged views on various issues.
Editor of daily sun Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin Naem Nizam, Editor of Kaler Kantho Imdadul Haq Milon, Editor of Banglanews24.com Jewel Mazhar, and Acting Editor of Kaler Kantho Mostofa Kamal, among others, were present in the discussion.
In the meeting, Bashundhara Group Managing Director proposed to the Chinese ambassador that China Town could be established in Dhaka if China was interested.
Bashundhara Group is ready to provide the land in this regard, if necessary, Sayem Sobhan Anvir added.
Expressing satisfaction over the proposal, envoy Li Jiming said China would consider Bashundhara's proposal.
Putting emphasis on setting up of a Chinese bank in Bangladesh, Bashundhara Group MD also said as China's trade and investment with Bangladesh is immense, the bank here will make business, trade and investment easier.
The Chinese ambassador, in response, said there is no barrier to establishing a Chinese bank in Bangladesh. He assured of taking initiative on how to establish the bank.
During the meeting, Sayem Sobhan announced the name of a street in the Bashundhara residential area as 'China Street'. The Chinese envoy Li Jiming gladly agreed to the proposal.
