DHAKA: Retail consumers have to pay more on electricity from the next month as the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the prices by Tk 0.36 or 5.3 percent to Tk 7.13 per unit.
Besides, the power tariff has been raised by 8.4 percent at wholesale levels.
The decision came at a public hearing, arranged by the BERC at its headquarters in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area on Thursday (Feb 27) afternoon.
BERC Chairman Md Abdul Jalil, in the hearing, said that the new tariff will come into effect from March 1.
He said, “The retail power tariff has been increased from Tk 6.77 to Tk 7.13 per kilowatt-hour unit while Tk 4.77 to Tk 5.17 at wholesale level.”
