Court issues travel ban on Evaly Chairman, MD

A Dhaka court issued a travel ban on e-commerce platform Evaly's chairperson Shamima Nasreen and her husband managing director (MD) Mohammad Russel.

Mahmud Hossain Jahangir, prosecutor of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed the matter on Saturday morning.

Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Imrul Kayesh passed the order on Thursday.

Earlier, the ACC has imposed restrictions on them leaving country as the court concerned was closed due to strict lockdown.

On July 7, the Ministry of Commerce asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to file a case against Evaly over the embezzlement of Tk 338 crore owed to merchants, which was taken as an advance from customers.

In an inspection report submitted to the commerce ministry last month, the Bangladesh Bank said Evaly's total liability was Tk407.18 crore.

After receiving Tk213.94 crore in advance from customers and Tk189.85 crore from merchants, the company was expected to have at least Tk403.80 crore in current assets, but it had only Tk65.17 crore.
