Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has shut down 59 unregistered and unauthorised internet protocol televisions (IPTVs).
The BTRC issued a press release on Sunday (Sept 19) in this regard.
The release says Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is the process of broadcasting contents through satellite television using the Internet Protocol Network. The telecom regulator only allows licensed ISPs to provide IP-based data services such as streaming services, IP TV and video on demand.
According to the press release, buying domain, some traders are running IPTVs through Facebook or Youtube illegally.
Those Internet Service Provider (ISP) approved by BTRC will be able to broadcasts of satellite TV channels through the internet after getting approval from the Ministry of Information only.
