Business leaders of Chittagong have condemned the murder attempt on Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir and called for exemplary punishment for the criminals.
Expressing grave concern, the business community of the port city urged the government to create a congenial atmosphere for the people who are contributing significantly to the country's economy.
President of The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahbubul Alam told Banglanews that such assassination attempts on the country's leading industrialists and businessmen are not accepted at all.
"As president of the Chamber, I must not support it," he also said.
While talking to Banglanews, Former director of FBCCI and managing director of Seacom Group Amirul Haque strongly condemned the assassination attempt on the MD of the country's top Business conglomerate.
The attempts on his life are not accepted, he said, adding Bashundhara Group MD is contributing at lot in the country's industrialization.
Mohammad Nasir, former vice-president of BGMEA, the apex body of garment industry owners, also strongly denounced the assassination attempt on MD of Bashundhara Group.
He told Banglanews: "I want exemplary punishment for this heinous attempt."
He also said Bashundhara Group, the country's largest business conglomerate is playing significant role in accelerating the country’s economic growth apart from creating huge employment opportunities.
The business leaders of the port city demanded that the state has to ensure the security of life and property of businessmen and industrial entrepreneurs so that so that they don’t get frightened in the present and future investment.
Foiling an assassination attempt on the Bashundhara Group Managing Director, law enforcers arrested a youth on Thursday. The arrestee was identified as Saiful Islam Saad, 23.
During preliminary interrogation, Saad confessed that he was preparing to attack Sayem Sobhan Anvir during Jumma prayers on Friday. Earlier, he attempted to poison Sayem Sobhan Anvir to death.
The arrestee disclosed that as part of the blueprint orchestrated by Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, MP from Chattogram-12 constituency (Patiya), and his son Nazmul Karim Chowdhury Sharun, he was supposed to shoot Anvir to death during Friday’s Jumma prayers.
Earlier on Saturday, protest rallies and human chains took place in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Brahmanbaria, Tangail, Narsingdi and Sylhet against the murder plot.
