Jewellery businessmen demanded setting up a gold bank and a gold exchange in the country to flourish the industry.
Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir sought the intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinain this regard.
He made the plea in his concluding speech in a two-day exchange of views with BAJUS district level leaders at Bashundhara residential area of the capital on Tuesday evening (Feb 8).
BAJUS President also said: "The jewellery businessmen across the country need to be united. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is always with us for the development of the industry. I firmly believe that the Premier will provide maximum policy support to the businessmen in exporting Jewellery items. If the jewellery products are exported, BAJUS members will get more respect at home and abroad."
Sayem Sobhan Anvir further said, "The problem of a jewellery businessman in the country means the problem for all. The problem of VAT in the jewellery sector needs to be addressed. Harassment must be stopped. BAJUS needs to be strengthened to solve the problems of the jewellery sector. All the jewellery businessmen across the country have to be united. in this regard, we urge all of you to be member of BAJUS wherever you are in the country."
BAJUS President called upon the businessmen of the jewellery sector to set up jewellery factories in the country.
Bangladesh will move one step ahead on the path of building “Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal)” envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through the export of jewellery products, Bashundhara Group Managing Director added.
BAJUS vice-presidents Gulzar Ahmed, Anwar Hossain, former president of the organisation and chairman of the district monitoring committee Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, assistant secretaries Masudur Rahman, Joynal Abedin Khokon, treasurer Uttam Banik, executive committee member Ripnul Hasan, Media communication and social affairs committee member secretary Mizanur Rahman Manik, District monitoring committee member Mrinal Kanti Dhar, Rakibul Islam Chowdhury and Enamul Haque Sohel, among others, also attended the programme.
