Eminent cultural personalities Hasan Imam and Ferdousi Mazumder will be awarded with this year’s ‘Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Padak’ for their contribution to their respective fields.

Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation will hand over them the awards at a program to be held at the National Music and Dance Centre auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha Thursday (August 30).

Shawon Mahmud, daughter of Altaf Mahmud and member secretary of Altaf Mahmud Foundation, confirmed the news.

Since its establishment in 2005, Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation gives the award each year, to recall the memory of Altaf Mahmud.

Altaf Mahmud was a musician, cultural activist and martyred freedom fighter of the Liberation War of 1971. 

The song ‘Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano’ used in Zahir Raihan’s 1970 film ‘Jibon Theke Neya’ was tuned by him.
