DHAKA: The Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP) Communication Campaign for the children was launched in the capital on Sunday.

Voluntary organization ZANALA Bangladesh organized the launching ceremony at the auditorium of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) in Mohakhali area of the capital.

Community Clinic Project Director Dr Makdhuma Nargis, speaking as the chief guest, said, “Every child has rights to be grown up with adequate nutrition and these opportunities are in a few in developing countries like ours.”

But, to bring up the children suitably is possible, if they get proper monitoring and the parents become aware, she added.

Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services Subhas Kumar Saha, Adolescent and Reproductive Health Program Manager Dr Shimul Kolly Hossain and the project implementing organization UNICEF’s chief of nutrition Noreen Prendiville were among others present.

The campaign is been run under the joint supervision of Institute of Public Health Nutrition and National Nutrition Services of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and UNICEF, targeting the children under five.

About 600 pharmacies, 300 health centers and more other institutions around Dhaka City will be covered by the project to run the campaign.

GMP is an important tool to assess and monitor the nutritional status of children and a platform to communicate about the nutritional well-being of the children.
