DHAKA: United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a letter to Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina put emphasis on conflict-free general election.
He also emphasized Bangladesh would move for the parliamentary polls through holding a “serious discussion” between the two top leaders of main two political parties.
Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN Dr Abdul Momen himself handed over the letter to Sheikh Hasina.
Ban Ki-moon praised the initiative by Sheikh Hasina to form an all-party poll-time interim government.
He also said that he had sent his Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs to take initiative to mitigate the distance between the leaders of ruling Awami League and opposition BNP over the poll-time government.
Ban Ki-moon, in the letter to the Premier, also said he sent another letter to the leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia.
