Airport-13 Armed police battalion (APBN) arrested a man along with 11 gold bars weighing 1.276kg in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday (October 6).
The arrestee Md. Raju is an employee of a private organization ‘Shuveccha’, whose job was to help the passengers in the airport.
Airport Armed Police Battalion Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ziaul Haque confirmed the matter.
He said Raju's movement and behaviour was suspected by the intelligence team of Airport Armed Police. At the same time, intelligence team suspected that he exchanged something with the passengers.
However, Raju was later arrested in front of the toilet of the arrival concourse hall. After, he was quizzed and searched 10 gold bars were recovered from a power bank and 1 gold bar from Raju's pocket, he said.
The estimated market value of which is Tk 1.22 crore, he added.
This APBN official also said that the process of filing a case against him under the Special Powers Act is underway at the Airport Police Station.
