Jatiya Sangsad Whip and Independent candidate from Chattogram-12 (Patiya) constituency Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury came under the wrath of party men during electioneering at Sheikh Para under Kaliaish union of the upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

The party men and locals chased Shamsul and his followers and kept them confined at that time, said sources. 

They also punctured the wheels of some 5-7 vehicles there. Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. 

Mentionable, Awami League (AL) has nominated Chattogram South district unit President Motaherul Islam Chowdhury for the seat, dropping Shamsul this time. 

There was resentment among the party-men as Shamsul earlier harassed them in various ways including filing false cases and misevaluation.

They expressed the resentment after the lawmaker went there for electioneering, said the sources.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nezam Uddin of Patiya police station said they heard about barring Shamsul during the campaign.

Police will investigate if the complaint is lodged in this regard, he added.
