Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will take the oath as the country's prime minister for the fourth consecutive term on Thursday.

Other members of the new cabinet will also take oath on the same day during a ceremony to be held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban around 7 pm, Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain said today (January 9).

President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath to the prime minister and her other cabinet members.

While talking to the reporters at the Secretariat in Dhaka this afternoon, Hossain said the cabinet division is undertaking all necessary preparation to make the oath taking ceremony a success.

In response to a question about the new members of the new cabinet, he mentioned that the cabinet division has not received any instructions from the prime minister in this regard.

Besides, the newly elected members of the 12th parliament will take the oath of office tomorrow.

On this occasion, an oath-taking ceremony will be held at the parliament complex around 10 am.

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad will formally administer the oath-taking ceremony.

A gazette notification of MPs-elect in the election is likely to be completed by today (Tuesday).

As per the constitutional rules, there is an obligation to take oath within three days of the gazette notification.

In the 12th parliamentary election held on January 7, the ruling Awami League bagged 222 seats out of 298, while independents 62, Jatiya Party 11 and Bangladesh Workers Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Bangladesh Kalyan Party won one seat each.

The balloting in the Naogaon-2 constituency was postponed following the death of a candidate in December.

The Election Commission will announce the result of another constituency, Mymensingh-3, later as polling of one of the centres was withheld.
