A local municipal Jubo League president of Jessore’s Monirampur Lutfur Rahman allegedly threatened to gouge out the eyes of a local journalist over a Facebook post.

Lutfur also president of Monirampur Upazila press club threatened Anowar Hossain, Jessore correspondent of Daily Ajker Potrika through mobile phone on Monday (January 8) around 8 pm. Later, the audio record went viral on social media.

When asked in this regard, Lutfur however said, “We are brothers in relation, therefore I was kidding, Anowar always makes fun of me. It’s nothing serious.”

Anowar Hossain said, “On Monday afternoon, I wrote on Facebook, that an illiterate person became the president of the press club, I would not have believed it if I had not seen it in Monirampur.”

After that Lutfar Rahman, President of Municipal Jubo League, called Anowar and threatened him with various threats including removing his eyes. In this regard, netizens made adverse comments as the matter spread on social media.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manirampur Police Station AB M Mehdi Masud confirmed the matter to Banglanews today (January 10).

"I have heard the incident." Legal action will be taken if complaints are received, the officer added.
