Miscreants go on rampage before winter clothes distribution in Ru

A gang of miscreants went on a rampage at Daudpur Union Parishad in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj and damaged cars and motorbikes immediately before distributing winter clothes on Tuesday (January 16).

The attackers entered the Union Parishad by breaking the gate and conducted extensive vandalism by burning a car and some motorcycles this noon.

At the same time, miscreants caused panic by several cocktails explosions and fired blank shots. The attackers also locked the UP chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir master inside the council.

However, at least 20 people were injured in this incident.

According to eyewitnesses, this hellish attack and rampage took place under the leadership of Mizanur Rahman, the notorious terrorist of the area, he is also the brother of Rafiqul Islam alias ‘Anda Rafiq’, the chairman of Rangdhanu Group.

Daudpur Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir Master and his followers worked for independent candidate Shahjahan Bhuiyan in the last 12th parliamentary elections, according to locals.

On Tuesday, UP Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir Master organized blanket distribution ceremony at Daudpur Union Parishad premises this noon. At the same time, some unidentified people were started gathering on the ceremony spot at one point fury was spread between both parties.

According to information, around 1.30 pm Anda Rafiq’s men and those unidentified miscreants attacked at the Union Parishad with sticks and sharp weapons.

At one point, the attackers broke the main gate of the Union Parishad vandalized chairs and tables, also three motorcycles were set on fire. The Harrier car used by UP Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir master was also set on fire.

At one point, Nurul Islam Jahangir master and his people were blocked inside the Union Parishad office.

During the attack, Rupganj Police Station OC and Superintendent of Police did not respond even after seeking help. Later, the Assistant Superintendent of Police sent a police force to help bring the situation under control, according to local journalists.

Later, the members of law and order forces rescued Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir Master from his office. Besides, Purbachal fire service personnel came and extinguished fire.

Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir Master said, “A program was organized here to distribute winter clothes among the poor and needy people of the area. Before I knew anything, the terrorists, armed with various weapons, broke the gates of the Union Parishad, attacked my people and set fire to cars and motorcycles.”
