A ferry named Rajanigandha capsized in the middle of the Padma river in Manikganj's Paturia on Wednesday (January 17 morning amid heavy fog.

Abdus Salam, manager of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at the Aricha point confirmed the matter. 

The ferry named ‘Rajanigandha’ with pick-up trucks and covered vans sank in the river around 8:16 am, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

On information, divers from the local fire service rushed to the spot and managed to rescue six people till now, said the Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters control room. 

However, the reason behind the ferry capsize could not be known immediately.
