Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen today (January 21) said Bangladesh is significant to China and called the present Finance Minister as an old friend.

He made the remark after a courtesy meeting with Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at his office in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

He said, "The new finance minister's diplomatic background and experience as a former foreign minister would significantly boost bilateral relationship with Bangladesh in the coming days."

Following the new government's assumption of duties, economic and commercial relations between Bangladesh and China are set to begin afresh, he said. 

The ambassador mentioned that the financial support promised by China for Bangladesh's infrastructure development projects would be easier to obtain than before.
