A total of 157 foreign nationals are waiting to be repatriated to their homelands after serving different jail terms across the country.
Confirming the matter to the High Court, the Department of Prisons in a report said of the foreign nationals, 150 are from India, five from Myanmar, one each from Pakistan and Nepal.
The High Court on January 15 passed an order and issued a rule, asking Department of Prisons to submit a report about the foreign nationals, who are waiting for repatriation after completing their jail terms here.
The court passed the order following a writ petition filed on January 11 by Advocate Bibhuti Tarafdar, who challenged the inaction of officials concerned in freeing and subsequently repatriating one Govinda Uriya from Tripura, India, as he completed serving his jail term for illegal entry here.
