Several factory workers, cops hurt in Gazipur clash

Some ready-made garment employees and members of the police were injured in clashes in Gazipur's Kaliakoir on Monday (January 22).

The incident took place in front of the Cocola Food Products Limited factory in Mouchak area this morning.

According to information, police charged batons on the agitating workers and also fired tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse them from the road.

The protesters threw brickbats at police members.

Several clashes ensued between the factory workers and policemen from 8am to 11am. The Dhaka-Tangail highway turned into a battlefield following the clashes. Vehicular movement on both sides remained halted.

Gazipur Industrial Police Additional Superintendent of Police Dipak Majumdar confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

He said on receiving information police rushed to the spot. At this time, when law enforcement members were trying to convince the workers, they got excited.

At one point the workers tried to vandalize the factory and blocked the highway. Later the police were forced to throw tear shells and sound grenades. When the workers dispersed, the situation returned to normal, the official added.
