Two arrested for threatening to kill PM Sheikh Hasina

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested two people for threatening to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 2023 during her foreign visit. 

The arrestees are Deen Islam and Kabir Hossain.

Additional Commissioner of Police and CTTC Unit Chief Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter at a press briefing at DMP media centre today (February 4).

On 2023, April 17, DMP’s media and public relation department officials received a threat email that mentioned to kill Sheikh Hasina during her foreign travel, According to CTTC.

In the email it was stated that, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be shot at 4:00am on April 27. Bangladesh police do not have the power to prevent this attack," the CTTC official said, adding that the same message was written in the body of the email as well.

Later, the matter was informed to Prime Minister’s office (PMO) in the capital and at that time, the security of the Prime Minister was increased during her foreign visits.

However, after the matter was informed to CTTC, a team of the unit's Cybercrimes Investigation Division team, was able to identify the email sender, Deen Islam, is located in Saudi Arab, Asaduzzaman said.

Following the incident, CTTC filed a case with Ramna Police Station on April 20, 2023.

After a long investigation by the Saudi authorities, on January 29 they arrested Deen Islam along with his associate Kabir Hossain and deported them to Bangladesh.

When the two arrestees reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, they were arrested, Asaduzzaman added.
