DHAKA: The indefinite roads, railways and waterways blockade and the second day of 48-hour hartal, enforced by BNP-led 18-party alliance, are underway simultaneously across the country on Tuesday.
A few goods-laden trucks were seen on highways though inter-district buses haulage was not seen in the early hour on the day.
Banglanews correspondents reported that law enforcers were seen alert at key intersections and points of the capital and the country. Besides, army personnel also were staying as striking force.
Meanwhile, one person was burnt to death as hartal supporters hurled petrol bombs at covered van on Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 12:30am.
Earlier, BNP-led 18-party alliance observed a 48-hour hartal on January 4 and 5, the first spell shutdown of the year.
Dr M Osman Faruk, adviser to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, announced the second spell of 48-hour hartal from 6:00am Monday to 6:00am Wednesday, demanding cancellation of January 5 polls.
