A Dhaka court acquitted Khadijatul Kubra, a student of Jagannath University (JnU), in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) at the Newmarket Police Station in the capital.
With the latest development, Kubra, who was released from Kashimpur Women’s Jail in November, was acquitted from the two cases filed against her under the DSA.
On completion of today’s hearing, Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AM Zulfikar Hayat passed the order as the court did not find any evidence to form a charge against her.
Earlier, January 28 was fixed as the date for the hearing of the digital security law case at Kalabagan Police Station.
Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AM Zulfikar Hayat also acquitted her as there was no material to form charge against Kubra.
In October 2020, police filed two separate cases under the DSA against Khadijatul Kubra and retired Major Delwar Hossain in Kalabagan and Newmarket police stations for allegedly spreading antigovernment statements online and tarnishing the image of Bangladesh.
The plaintiffs of the respective cases are Sub-Inspector Khairul Islam from Newmarket Police Station and Sub-Inspector Arif Hossain from Kalabagan Police Station.
While on duty both the plaintiffs were browsing YouTube on their mobile phones and saw videos of Kubra and Major (retd) Delwar Hossain.
Then both of them filed a complaint in their respective police stations in this connection.
Khadija was released from Kashimpur Central Jail on November 20 after serving a long 15 months of imprisonment.
