A massive fire that erupted in a seven-storey commercial building at Bailey Road in the capital on Thursday night was brought under control.
According to Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters they received the news of the fire at Kachchi Bhai Restaurant at 9:50pm and rushed to the spot with eight units of firefighters at 9:56pm. Later, four more units joined them.
A total of twelve fire engines brought the blaze under control at Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall at 11:50pm.
Director General of Fire Service Brigadier General Md Main Uddin confirmed the matter.
Earlier, Shajahan Sikder, media cell officer of fire service headquarters said after the fire broke out at least 65 individuals were rescued alive from the adjacent building.
Of the rescued people, 10 were treated at the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he said.
The injured are Imran, 13, Shakil, 24, Ujjal, 23, Jobayer, 21, Omar Faruk, 43, Shakil, 22, Jewel, 30, Shezan, 22, Deen Islam, 30, and Iqbal Hossain, 24.
Initially, the fire's cause and the damage's extent could not be specified, he added.
