Two passengers were detained with 2.31kg of gold at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Saturday.
Officials said Md Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Patiya upazila, and Mohammad Morshed, of Hathazari upazila in the district, arrived at the airport by a flight from Sharjah around 6:30am.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate and the National Security Intelligence searched the luggage of Shafiqul.
They found 1.114kg of gold concealed inside a blending machine at that time. The market price of the gold was estimated at around Tk1 crore, said the officials.
The joint team also ran a search on another passenger Morshed there. They found gold kept inside a high-pressure washer and some bangles and rings from his possession.
The market price of the gold weighing around 1.2kg would be around Tk1.2 crore, said Customs Deputy Commissioner Mahfuz Alam.
Legal actions in these connections were under process, he added.
