At least eight people were killed and 13 others injured after a bus rammed a motorcycle and auto rickshaw in Pirojpur on Friday (Mar 8).

The incident happened at Parer Hat Jhautola bus stand area in Sadar Upazila at 12pm.

Of the deceased five identified as Naeem Howlader, 19, Mansura Begum, 50, Hemayet Howlader, 50, Md. Khairul Farazi, 20, and Swapan.

According to locals, deceased six people were passengers of the autorickshaw, and of the remaining two, one was a motorcyclist and the other was a bus passenger.

Quoting locals Pirojpur District Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Rezwan Hossain said the bus after losing cobtrol over its steering rammed a battery run auto rickshaw and the motorcycle, leaveing eight people dead on the spot. Some of the passengers in the bus were also injured after it collided with a tree on the side of the road..

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar police station. Ashikuzzaman confirmed the matter.

The seriously injured have been sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla and Khulna Medical College Hospitals, he added.
