At least 11 persons including children were injured in a fire that originated from an explosion following a gas line leakage in Chattogram on Friday (Mar 8). 

According to eyewitnesses the explosion took place at the house of one Osman Gani at Bahir Signal Shankar Dewanji Hat in the city's Chandgaon area at around 12:45 am. 

Three families used to live on the second floor of the building. Gas got stranded in the house from a leakage of the pipeline, said locals.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahedul Kabir of Chandgaon Police Station confirmed the matter. 

"When the housewife lit the burner, the explosion took place spreading in the house," he said. 

The fire quickly engulfed the adjoining houses leaving 11 persons including children injured, said the officer. 

The injured were undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, he added.
