Today (March 9) is the 32nd death anniversary of Umme Kulsum, mother of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.
Bashundhara Group will commemorate her with great respect, and organize several programs including Quran khatam, Dua Mahfil, distribution of food to the underprivileged and visiting grave.
Umme Kulsum, a mother and homemaker, died on March 9, 1992.
Her husband Advocate Abdus Sobhan was a lawyer who practiced law for nearly five decades. They had two sons and four daughters, with the eldest son, Abdus Sadek, being a well-known athlete. The youngest son, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, has become one of the country’s most prominent industrialists. Additionally, her grandchildren, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, and sons-in-law have also made significant contributions to the social and economic sectors of the country.
Born in 1920 in the village of Pahariakandi in Brahmanbaria district, Umme Kulsum dedicated herself to raising her children and supporting her husband in their family life. Her daily routine was marked by her compassionate, unassuming, and egalitarian nature, always treating others with care and respect while maintaining a simple and unpretentious lifestyle. In her personal life, she was known for her piety and philanthropy.
