UNDP Bangladesh, in response to the significant economic, social, and logistical hurdles brought about on people’s lives and livelihood by the COVID-19 pandemic, is implementing the initiative titled "Supporting Emergency Supplies of PPEs and Transferring Technological Know-how in Response to COVID-19 in Bangladesh."
This initiative is part of the "China-UNDP Triangular Cooperation Response to COVID-19 in the Asia and the Pacific Region" and is funded by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) of the People's Republic of China.
One of the primary objectives of this initiative is to enhance the manufacturing capabilities of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at the local level, and create employability and livelihood opportunities for poor and disadvantaged groups of vulnerable people in the garment sector through supporting 1,245 vulnerable individuals (especially women), and women entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurship and self-help tailoring by equipping them with automated sewing machines and skill enhancement training for PPE and garment production.
However, even with the training to enhance their skills, the beneficiaries may encounter occasional challenges in operating automated sewing machines because of their limited previous experience with such equipment.
Considering this fact, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized Training of Trainers (ToT) on Operation and Troubleshooting of Household Type Automated Sewing Machines Type on 17-18 Feburary, 2024 in TDH, Kurigram said a media release.
The primary objective of ToT is to develop a few beneficiaries as potential trainers for their respective communities who will be able to support fellow beneficiaries in troubleshooting and increasing efficiency in the operation of the household machines.
A total of 30 participants from different districts coming from rural and urban settings received the training.
The ToT followed the participatory methods, including lectures, discussions, practical demonstrations, and micro-presentations for effective and engaging learning.
The expected outcomes of ToT are (a) participants are equipped with advanced knowledge and practical skills in the operation of Household Machines (b) Enhanced learning capabilities to transfer knowledge to end-users effectively (c) Increased confidence and easy solutions for beneficiaries in addressing day-to-day difficulties in machine operation (d) enhanced leadership quality of the selected beneficiaries receiving the ToT.
