Moon sighted, Ramadan begins tomorrow

Bangladesh will observe Ramadan from tomorrow, The National Moon Sighting Committee said today (Mar 11).

State Minister for Religion Faridul Haque Khan said this after a meeting this evening.

In the evening, the National Moon Sighting Committee held a meeting at the meeting room of the Islamic Foundation at the National Mosque, Baitul Mokarram, in Dhaka.

Tonight after Isha prayer, devout Muslims will start Taraweeh prayer and have Sahri on the early hours.

Ramadan is the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It is believed to be the month the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed.

Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset every day of the month, which is typically 29 or 30 days.

The month is also a period during which Muslims seek to strengthen their faith through prayer and increased recitation of the Quran.
