Bangladeshi vessel ‘MV Abdullah’ hijacked by Somali pirates

A Bangladesh-flagged vessel “MV Abdullah” was hijacked with 23 crew members onboard by armed Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean on its way to Dubai from Mozambique on Tuesday (March 12).

The bulk carrier of SR Shipping, a concern of Kabir Group, was carrying some 58,000 tonnes of thermal coal.

The pirates took control over the vessel taking the crew members hostage, he said.

On 5 December 2010, another vessel “Jahan Moni” of the same group was also hijacked by Somali pirates. The vessel with 25 crew members and the wife of the chief engineer was released after 99 days.
