DHAKA: Law ministry has sent a letter to the home ministry to set up a special tribunal on the torture on country’s minority communities.
Another letter has also been sent to the ministry to transfer the cases on the torture on minority communities to the tribunal.
These two letters, signed by home ministry’s deputy secretary, were sent on Thursday.
The home ministry took the initiative as several torture incidents happened during the 10th parliamentary elections.
Officials from the home ministry said, this initiative has taken to ensure the judgement for the victims.
According to them, with these letters a request has been made to the law secretary to take necessary steps.
Home ministry joint secretary (law branch) Smriti Rani Gharami told banglanews, these kinds of incidents against minority communities had also occurred during the election in 2001.
After this year’s national polls, these sorts of incidents also occurred. This initiative of setting up a special tribunal is taken to prevent the repetitions of the torture incidents.
