62 fishermen rescued,7 robbers held

COX’S BAZAR: Coast guards and Bangladesh Navy personnel rescued 62 fishermen from the grasps of sea-robbers in Sonadia point of Bay of Bengal.

The rescued fishermen are the residents of Maheshkhali upazila of the district.

Navy sources said that Bangladesh Navy ship ‘Oporajeyo’ rescued 62 fishermen along with three fishing trawlers and held seven sea robbers with locally made firearms at 2:00pm Thursday while they were committing robbery in the area.

The rescued fishermen said that by speed boat, the sea robbers attacked three fishing trawlers and kidnapped them.

Later, Navy personnel which was patrolling in the area condicted the rescue operation and held seven robbers with one-barrel gun, huge lethal weapons.
