Bhutanese King arrives in Dhaka

Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck arrived in Dhaka on a four-day state visit to attend a series of events including Independence Day celebrations.

This marks the first state visit by a foreign dignitary since the new government formed after the January 7 elections.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and the First Lady greeted the king and his delegation upon their arrival via a special flight at 10 am.

The king was honored with a state salute and a guard of honor by a well-presented contingent of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, accompanied by the national anthems of both countries.

Following the airport ceremony, the king proceeded to pay respects at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32, dedicated to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Later on Monday afternoon, the king will hold a delegation-level meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office, including a one-on-one discussion.

During the visit, three new Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed between Bangladesh and Bhutan, along with the renewal of an MoU on cultural exchange.

On Tuesday, the king will visit the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar and the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

During the visit, the Bhutanese king will also tour the Padma Bridge and Bangladesh Special Economic Zone in Araihazar, Narayanganj.

On Thursday, he will visit the Kurigram Special Economic Zone before departing from Bangladesh territory for Golakganj, Assam via the Sonahat Land Port.
