Meat trader Khalilur Rahman today (March 25) declared to discontinue his meat business after 20th Ramadan.
He made the declaration during conversation with media.
Khalilur came to limelight for selling beef at affordable prices. His shop ‘Khalil Mangso Bitan’ was selling beef at Tk 595 since first Ramadan.
However, Khalil faced criticism for suddenly hiking beef price after 10th Ramadan.
After that, yesterday (March 24) Khalilur Rahman said he will continue to sell beef at Tk 595 instead of Tk 695 till 20th Ramadan.
Regarding business closing Khalilur said, “The meat traders for whom I have done so much, they are not with me now. General Secretary of Bangladesh Meat Traders Association Rabiul Alam has been with me for a long time but now he is no more. The government is no longer with me. As a result, I will no longer continue meat business.”
“I promise, after 20th Ramadans, there will be no more Khalil Mangso Bitan. I will not trade meat again in my life,” he added.
Meanwhile, on Sunday (March 24), Director General of Consumer Rights Protection Directorate A. H. M. Safikuzzaman said that beef sellers Khalil, Nayan and Ujjal have been selling beef at a loss. As the price of cattle has increased, the price of meat has also increased. It is no longer possible for them to sell meat at a lower price. What they will do in this situation is entirely their decision.
