Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB) arrested three members of a fake currency making racket from Naria upazila in Shariatpur on Thursday.
RAB counterfeit notes of around Tk20.46 lakh from their possession.
The arrestees are Arif Bepari, 20, son of Ratan Bepari of Charmohon in Naria upazila; Mohammad Zahid, 23, son of Ali Ahmed of Char Laulani of the same upazila; and Anik, 19, son of Hanif Gazi of Char Laulani of the upazila.
Liutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of the RAB Battalion-3, briefed reporters about their arrests at RAB media centre in Kawran Bazar of the capital.
He said that Arif Bepari is the ringleader of the racket. He once worked at a computer shop at Bangla Bazar in Ghorishar of Naria.
At that time, Arif learned how to make fake notes from YouTube, said the elite force officer.
Later, with the help of two other arrestees, he began to make fake notes. They also set up an online platform for selling fake notes, according to the officer.
They sold fake notes of taka one lakh for real money worth Tk10,000-12,000.
The arrestees had taken preparations for supplying a huge amount of fake notes to the consumer markets ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, RAB confirmed.
