The police headquarters on Monday (April 1) issued a directive discouraging policemen from taking motorcycles home during Eid holidays as there is a risk of road accidents.
A letter signed by Additional DIG of Police Headquarters Mia Masud Karim was issued in this regard.
In the letter, police headquarters asked its officials to handover their bikes to respective stations and re-issue after returning from the Eid holiday.
Leave clearance will be issued only after handing over the government motorcycle to the officer-in-charge of the concerned unit, according to the directive.
The letter said departmental action would be taken against any policeman who takes leave without handing over the motorcycle.
Even if one gets a motorcycle following all the rules, that officer must have a valid driving license to ply on the highway. No policeman shall ply a motorcycle without a valid license, the letter further added.
