The Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Wednesday (April 3) sold Tk18 crore gold seized by customs officials at an auction hosted after 16 years.

Venus Jewellers bought the gold weighing over 25.30-kg in total, confirmed the central bank’s Executive Director Mezbaul Haque. 

The proceeds from the sale have been delivered to Bangladesh Customs, Mezbaul said.

In the last attempt to sell the gold in late-2022, there was no suitable bidder.

The Bangladesh Bank successfully auctioned off gold for the last time on 23 July 2008. The auctions are often plagued with issues like lack of suitable bidders, among others.
