Writ with HC seeking fresh polls

DHAKA: A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Sunday seeking fresh polls.

In the writ, it was also challenged to issue a gazette notification by the election commission (EC) naming 290 newly elected lawmakers and their oath.

BNP leader Zainul Abdin Farrooque filed the petition with the court.

Speaker, Cabinet Secretary, Secretary for law ministry, Secretary for National Parliament, Election Commission and Chief election Commissioner were made respondents to the writ.    

The gazette was published on Wednesday declaring the names of 290 winners of tenth JS. Election in eight constituencies was postponed and results of Jessore-1 and Jessore-2 were omitted.
